GBLTC Drag Competition
On Friday February 23, Associated Students of University of Washnigton's Gay Bisexual Lesbian Transgender Commission (GBLTC) proudly hosted the annual Drag Competition at 7:00 p.m. in the Husky Union Building ballroom.
Kelsey Mussman, GBLTC director describes the event as "a celebration of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer communities through fabulous outfits, amazing songs, incredible talent, and hilarious drag queens."
Musman added the GBTLC is committed to funding and supporting events and programs that convey anti-oppressive social values and promote a caring environment for all students of the UW community. Through the competition, the performers will not only be given the opportunity to entertain and have an enjoyable experience, but also to be able to display their perception of gender roles and norms in the society today.
The contest will also include an exhibition performance by UW's Q center. The center works towards an open and secure atmosphere for bisexual, lesbian, gay, queer, transgender student and faculty communities at the university. Several student organizations set up information tables at the event to give out details about various student causes and groups at UW. Furthermore, the Delta Lambda Phi fraternity conducted a clothes drive for Life Long Aids Alliance, which was created six years ago as a result of the merger of Chicken Soup Brigade and Northwest AIDS Foundation.
